Stop Messing with Me
“Living rent-free in your mind.” This is a comical expression about a subject that is not funny. It is when a person who harmed you or is taking advantage of you is constantly present in your daily thoughts. Try as you may, you cannot get the thoughts of them out of your mind.
2 Corinthians 2:10-11 (CSB) Anyone you forgive, I also forgive. And what I have forgiven—if there was anything to forgive—I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake, 11in order that satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.
So that satan might not outwit us! The battle against satan originates in the mind, our thoughts. Satan cannot physically overpower a Believer. God said, 1 John 4:4 (CSB) You are from God, little children, and you have conquered them, because the One Who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. But he can sure get us thinking the wrong way.
2 Corinthians 4:4 (CSB) … the god of this age has blinded the minds of the unbelievers to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.
2 Corinthians 10:4b-5 (CSB) We demolish arguments 5and every proud thing that is raised up against the knowledge of God, and we take every thought captive to obey Christ.
Philippians 4:7 (CSB) And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.
God’s Word, the Bible, is truth. It does not simply contain the truth. It is the truth. The Bible is the main weapon we use against satan. When satan came after Jesus in the wilderness temptation story recorded in Matthew 4, satan did not try to physically overpower Jesus. Satan came after Jesus in His mind, His thoughts, His imagination. Jesus knew the truth and quoted scripture when satan tempted Him. As we read, study, and memorize scripture, we guard against satan’s lies and our own false imaginations that satan uses against us!
Fill your heart, mind, and spirit with the truth, God’s Word, so that satan will not outwit you! Armed with God’s Word tell satan, “I know the Truth, stop messing with me!”
