Day 9
“Together”
1 Thessalonians 3:6-10 (CSB) But now Timothy has come to us from you and brought us good news about your faith and love. He reported that you always have good memories of us and that you long to see us, as we also long to see you. 7Therefore, brothers and sisters, in all our distress and affliction, we were encouraged about you through your faith. 8For now we live, if you stand firm in the Lord. 9How can we thank God for you in return for all the joy we experience before our God because of you, 10as we pray very earnestly night and day to see you face to face and to complete what is lacking in your faith?
Family reunions were always a fun thing when I was a child. Our reunions were usually at the Noccalula Falls Park. My grandmother knew everyone in the Hodge family, relatives both close and distant. She would take me around to meet all the “Hodges” in our family. She knew the names of people I had never met! It was fun and provided a young child, me, a sense of identity with a larger family.
In a way, the Church gathering for worship is like a family reunion. Christians are one in Christ. We all have the same Heavenly Father. Corporate Worship provides us a sense of identity with our larger family.
God told Israel to celebrate together and remember how God blessed them during their wilderness wandering. It was a sense of identity and God’s blessings.
Hebrews 10:24-25 (NLT) “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of His return is drawing near.”
Christians meeting together on Sunday for worship provides us a sense of identity. We are forgiven of our sins and blessed immensely!
2 Corinthians 1:22 (NLT) …and He has identified us as His own by placing the Holy Spirit in our hearts as the first installment that guarantees everything He has promised us.
God has made us family! We are identified as His child. We bear His name. So, my brothers and sisters, see you at the reunion on Sunday; 8:30 AM at The Lakefront Church and 11:00 AM at First Baptist!
