Day 10

“The Joy of Team”

1 Thessalonians 1:2-3 (CSB) We always thank God for all of you, making mention of you constantly in our prayers. 3We recall, in the presence of our God and Father, your work produced by faith, your labor motivated by love, and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.

There is a unique bond that develops among people who are on the same team. Teammates work together, condition together, struggle against the opposition together, encourage each other, and enjoy the victories together. It can be the same in a church family. We are a team ministering together for our Lord and Savior, Jesus!

Paul expressed this deep bond to the Christians in the city of Thessalonica. He thanked God for them and their devotion to Christ. Paul also listed why he was thanking God for them. Their “team qualities” made them incredibly special. These qualities can strengthen our team’s commitments to other Believers as we serve together.

  1. “your work produced by faith” - ‘Work’ in this verse is the internal drive to accomplish something. This desire is produced by your faith in Christ and the power of God’s Holy Spirit. You have a ‘heart’ to serve.
  2. “your labor motivated by love” - ‘Labor’ is what you do even against difficult challenges. The ability to continue in tough times is motivated by Christ’s love for us and our love for others!
  3. "your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.” - 'Endurance’ is the characteristic of a Believer who does not deviate from God’s purpose or loyalty to Christ even facing great trials and sufferings.

In other words, being a team member who has the heart to serve, the willingness to work hard, and do so under the most difficult circumstances. We have the greatest example ever!

Hebrews 12:1-2 (CSB) Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us, 2keeping our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of our faith. For the joy that lay before Him, He endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

During the 40 Days of Prayer and Fasting, let us pray that we will always be the Believer that makes a great team member!
